There are many benefits to hiring a dog walker,

you can check these out on our dog walking page. But here’s one reason you may not have thought of, I didn’t until today. I’ve been walking my dogs early every morning before it gets too hot. With it being 4th of July and all we’ve all been hearing fire crackers going off. Some of us have dogs who are very nervous and some who may even need to be medicated during this time. I don’t have one of those dogs. Stardust is not phased by the sound of fireworks. That is until today!
We were out on our morning walk and someone lit off M80 or some big loud bang at a house we were walking past. We were about a mile or so from home. Poor Stardust was so frightened she jerked loose from me and took off running. She had no recall, she seemed to have lost her hearing because she never even turned back to look at me screaming at the top of my lungs STARDUST! She trotted at a nice pace and luckily avoided being hit by a car because in her world everything revolves around her and if a car was coming it would just stop and go around her. We’ve taught her that by always stepping around or over her when she’s sprawled out on the floor.
A nice man saw what happened and tried to help, he thought he could catch her so he dove past her and got out of his truck and ran after her. Bad call dude. This made her cross the street and take off down a side street and out of my vision. Before this she was headed towards home but now I don’t know where she’s going. I made a call to the reinforcements and told my husband what direction she had headed. Nice man had tried to follow her but lost sight of her.
We walk a lot of different routes in our neighborhood and her brothers mark everything! It only makes sense that she should be able to follow the breadcrumbs so to speak home.
A couple of minutes later I got a call that she was scratching at the back gate to get in. She was able to find her way home.
What does this have to do with hiring a dog walker? If they get out and walk their neighborhoods enough they will always be able to find their way home.
We are so happy that Stardust was able to do this, don’t know what we’d do with our girl.
